I haven't managed to locate FFVIA yet, but the dated graphics didn't stop me from sinking in at least 30-40 hours into FFVA. Obsessive job level grinding don't need no fancy pictures.

I actually had a hard time finding it when it just came out. I eventually found it at Circuit City one day and bought me a copy 😀.

Personally, I don't mind the switch to 3D and I think it can breathe a bit of life into the old game. From the limited amount that I played on the rom using No$GBA, it is pretty sweet and just seeing the old characters "redone" was a nice touch 😀. I would've played more, but the emulator crashed at odd points... I think it happened whenever I pressed a specific button and I'd always hit it before I'd save or set an emulated save point 😛.

Oh and lemme tell ya, Rosa is certainly quite the looker when you get out of 2D 😉.

I found a lot of hard to find GBA games at Walmart online. But that was awhile back, I'm sure as time goes on these titles become rarer and rarer.

I agree with the complaints on 3d, I dont get why everything has to be somewhat crappy 3d graphics instead of absolutely beautiful 2d graphics with hand drawn backdrops.

That doesn't seem to apply to this game from the FF IV screen shots posted earlier.

It makes more sense for Planescape: Torment and Fallout, though I wouldn't mind seeing them with updated high-resolution sprites (maybe even 3D) and higher-resolution versions of the art.

I agree.. If they redid FF3(US) rendered in the same style as character art from the manual...

I think he was saying Final Fantasy IV should be remade with improved 2D graphics.

^ that makes more sense. I'd pay good money for PS:T, Fallout, X-Com and other 2D isometric classics remade still 2D but with new high-resolution sprites and tiles.

(i.e if a character sprite was done as 32x32 for 640x480, they'd make the sprite 48x48 for 1024x768 or 64x64 for 1280x960.)

That's a better use of the extra pixels (IMHO) than those mods that shrink everything down without increasing the resolution of the art.

Dave,

Not sure if you missed the idea of FF4 on DS or i just don't understand your question.

A1. Big difference, PS1 is 2D original game with some added CGI for important parts (not much). DS is a complete 3D game 100% remake.

Q2. PS1 CD = 650MB...
A2. well lets just say there was a lot of wasted space for the PS1 version as the game would fit into a ~4MB(guessing size) SNES cart, and so i am sure the game with CGI seq was no more than 50MB

That does clear things up. I haven't played any version of FFIV yet so had no idea how the amount of cutscenes compared to later games. If there had been 30 minutes of 640x480 cutscenes in the PS1 version I might prefer it over 2 minutes in the DS.

Those DS graphics look a lot nicer than the PS1 graphics, I may finally have to buy a DS ("once the Jasper revision is out" 😉 )

Are you prepared to deal with the LONG load times that happen during random battles on the PS1 version?
Good luck.

Besides if there is less cut scenes and more gameplay, I'd actually appreciate it.
I'm here to play a game, not watch a freaking movie.
Cut scenes was the main reason I hated the Xenosaga series. That game is still collecting dust...I never finished it.

Do what I do: rip discs to .iso and run through an emulator.

I have a PS3 to play all my old games, but I'd really rather not deal with the (often painful) load times.

Plus, I keep the iso's backed up in case any original discs is destroyed.

This thread just reminded me to go pick it up before I head off to Cali next week... something to do on the flight.

Thanks Aikouka 🙂

I expect a full write-up, Mister!
I should pick it up before I head out to the sister-in-law's place, myself...

Ohh, you'll get one 😉

I think this will be the fourth copy of the game I'll have, all on different platforms 😛

I wish they would redo these games under the ps3 or x360 with a decent 3d engine. now that would be awesome.

same here, or release a modify version of final fantasy IV DS on the wii virtual console so I can play it on my 27in tv instead.
