Sorry I missed the previous bump.
I never did get the game working in Direct3D with the hi-res patch and my GeForce cards. It crashes immediately.
My old office system with the Radeon X800 runs the hi-res patch just fine. So thats how I've been playing it.
And the PC version is far superior. Even with the issues, the game looks much better. 640x480 with heavy AA is a lot better looking than the PS1 version.
1280x960 (when you can get it to work) is Excellent.
You can also customize the controls, and use save game editors to give yourself items you may have missed. I hated the fact you could never get a certain Master Materia just because you missed one small materia at a specific point in the game.
Or if you have already beaten the game a few times, you can give yourself all kinds of neat goodies to start off with.
Its fun playing at the beginning with a double cut or slash all and an Apocolypse.
Cheap, but fun.
