hey im new to this site i need help with my new labtop and final fantasy 11, ok i just purchased ff11 from gametap and ive downloaded it to my dual core dell inspiron labtap from best buy and i got this labtop specificly for online gaming ok, let me get to the issue so ive downloaded the game ff11 from gametap, updated it and everything when it starts it starts fine intro plays great and i enter the city its still working great, no lag or anything, but when i try to leave the main city or when i enter or exit my mog house the game just freezes 🙁 and i cant fingure out why, ive already download catalyst and updated my drivers for better gaming performance but its still doing this, i've also download prince of persia from game tap and it runs perfectly so whats going on with ff11 help me please guys thank you

hmm thats not really the case of my system overheating or my graphics card on my labtop, ok if im in the main start city in the game it works fine i can run around all day with no lag, but when i try to go outside the city thats when the game freezes like my mouse wont even move i dk if its loading and its just taking a long time or what it could be

Having played FFXI for a while I must admit I've never ran into this problem.

May I inquire as to what video card your system has? How much memory? Which operating system?

Do you know which server you are on? FFXI has multiple servers that you can have an account on.

It sounds weird because you can load into a city, but when you zone it freezes. Loading into a new zone / mog house takes around 30 seconds or so.

Other places I may suggest for support:

also for specs i have dell inspiron m5030, my hardware is amd athlon p360 dual-core processors, any my graphics card i believe is the ati mobility radeon hd 4200 series

I am still curious as to which operating system you are running (Vista, Win7 / 32bit, 64bit).

In Vista 32bit I had to run FFXI as an administrator to get it to work.

There may be issues with Windows 7, 64 bit.

What happens when you zone? Crash to desktop? Crash to the POL (Playonline) Viewer? Freeze at blackscreen with no graphical updates at all? Are you able to alt-tab after waiting a couple minutes (or ctrl-alt-del) to end the process?

This is basically what happens when you zone.

In this video the person is being warped to an area but the process is the same for zoning to an area.

It will at least give you an idea of what to expect and maybe help troubleshoot.

I enjoyed the game a lot. I hate to see you have problems with it.

It sounds like your PC is struggling to load the large area outside the city, which is usually a memory issue. Either lack of ideal amount of memory or faulty memory can cause this issue. I suggest you download Memtest and let it run for a little bit to see if you get any errors.

I used to have similar issues with Planetside on my old crappy Dell because I didn't have enough memory. Good luck with your issue, hopefully we can help you get it sorted.

Ok the screen goes black like the game is loading and about to take me into the outland. the thing is the game freezes at the blk screen (weird huh) and thats where im at right now

We aren't referring to your hard drive space (30gig), we are referring to your RAM.

I am still wanting to know what Operating System you are using. (Vista, Win7 / 32bit, 64bit)

Try running the FFXI benchmark demo. See if you get any errors on it. Report back the number it gives you at the end.

FFXI had some pretty modest system requirements.
PC Requirements (Recommended for full enjoyment)

- Pentium 4+
- Windows 98 or higher
- DirectX 8.1 or higher
- 256 MB of RAM
- 6.5 GB of Hard Drive Space
- Broadband type connection
- Video card with 64MB of Video RAM
- A PS to PC Controller Converter to play with your PS Pad

*edit* Do you have a firewall program and if so is FFXI allowed through it?

Ill try that also im running windows 7

I haven't played with Windows 7 yet, but are you running FFXI as "Administrator" or is UAC disabled?

I know there was an issue at one point in time with Vista / Windows 7 but from what I can tell the version you downloaded should have been patched for that.

if you're using the built in windowed mode from the game disable it, and try running the game in fullscreen mode (won't let you alt-tab out of the game though).

If you want to be able to run it in windowed mode then forget about the built in feature and google 'FFXI Windower' and use that instead.

Might help out.

If its freezing while loading it sounds more like a data corruption problem. The cities, while not as intensive to load as some of the outside zones, are still pretty decent sized. (Windurst waters/walls comes to mind...)

Or it could simply be your computer can't handle the game... I have a duo core computer on integrated graphics processor and I had to turn everything down to way low before it would even load.

That being said, run the FFXI benchmark like others have said.

danwar how do I disable the built in window mode for this honestly I cant find any configuration for the game. ( Im a noob I know I wish I was as smart as the guy who invented facebook off the movie social network lol)

Start Menu > PlayOnline > Final Fantasy XI > Final Fantasy XI Config

Uncheck "Start in Windowed Mode" on the General Tab
