Final Fantasy 10: My sound is freezing the game!

Im on the high road leading off of Lucas, I got down the road entirely and meet a women named Berglimine. I talked with everyone on the road without any delays in voice but when I talked to the Berg summoner, it took a VERY long time for her to say what her lines were. We fought a duel and I won, I'm stuck at the point where Yuna says to Berg,"Thank you!"

I hear the background music play, I hear the scenary audio, I see the environment moving. That means it isn't frozen but something is freezing their voices and henceforth not letting me finish their dialogues so I could continue on. I try pressing x several times but it doesn't work. Can I take the CD, while the game is still on, out of the system and rub it with my shirt, or what?

Thank you.

I bought it off of Amazon.com, it was used. Should I continue replaying the same scenario over and over again so that it will eventually break it's stop at this point? It seemed to break through one line when I did this. It was stuck at a previous line before but I paused the game for a very long time, watched TV, and than came back seeing the line Yuna said above.

I have not played FF X in a while, but can you turn off the sound and just run with subtitles? Look at the disk. See if it is scratched. If so try one of the CD/DVD disk repairing tools. If you don't have one, a new FFX game is only $20 bucks at BB.

Are you guys certain that toothpaste does the trick? I find it rather odd seeing how teeth and cds have something in common......

Is the disc even scratched at all? Toothpaste may not work because the abrasive can range from fine to coarse.

There is a very very small scratch that looks like a little piece of hair but isn't. Could it be my system that's the problem?

If it's happening at the same spot time and time again then it's a 99% chance it is the disc.

Alright than, that is a massive relief to hear, truthfully. I'm considering to polish and clean the disc when I get the materials avaliable to do so without risk. It seems as though I might have to skip a few things so that I can enjoy this beautiful game =/.
