Little known fact, if you have a thief in your party and you have his character graphic representing the party while walking around, you don't need keys to go through doors. Thieves suck though. Red Mages can't get the higher level spells and aren't that great at fighting.

wow didn't know that one 🙂

My party was Fighter, Blackbelt, White Mage, Black Mage. Fighter was the best melee fighter until I finally got the blackbelt upgraded to kungfu master who sucked before the upgrade, Black Mage has some nasty spells, White Mage is excellent for part healing for those particuarly nasty fight.

I thought you said you didn't play a lot of RPG games. 😉😀

The party that I created was "Fighter", "BlackBelt", "White Mage", "Red Mage".

Having "exit" on both white and red mage saved me quite a bit!

My favorite party is Fighter, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage. I also like to play the ship game over and over again until I have enough money to buy silver swords for the Fighter and Red Mage without having to fight lots of battles to get the money. There's just something cool about having that much power at level 2.

you are obviously a clueless newb who never played FF2 or FF3 if you think FF7 is better than either of them

I'm not a clueless newb, I played EVERY Final Fantasy game made for the NES, SNES, PSX, and PS2. And I say FF7 is the greatest console RPG ever made.

Hey, I meant I don't play a lot of RPG games with Nerds! Computer games, on the otherhand, are a-okay.

And I don't have to worry about sitting next to a bunch of fat guys who eat cheetos and don't bath more than once a week 🙂

4x Monk. They are bad at first, but after lvl 5, they pwn. No contest. I just went through a pass of FF1 on *shock* an emulator and I beat it in a day 🙂.

Generally speaking any party with one or two red mages is "supposedly" the best, as they're basically a fighter with magic. However if you're like me and you just pick characters for kewlness factor, I like the BB, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage combo. Thief becomes Ninja, BB becomes Master. Kung Fu goodness!

And I will say, FF:Tactics is one of my favorites (definitly most replayed). But FF6/7 win for story. A shame what they did to the series with the last few iterations.

Edit: For those that have never played the original, I'd recommend picking up FF😱rigins or Dawn of Souls (PSX and GBA) versions of the game. The improved graphics and slightly updated music might make playing the game through easier... plus you have the benefit of playing FF2 as well, though be warned, it's VERY different (the character system that is). 😉

red mages suck.

if you have a lot of patience, a black belt becomes the best fighter in the game
