Don't order that, you're getting reamed. Hold on and I'll get you a better Dell deal...

EDIT: OK, I was totally right. Your configuration is awful - I can get a better system from Dell for almost $600 cheaper.

EDIT 2: Screw it. Good luck.

Psh.

The 9200 comes out more expensive with shipping, plus it has Windows Basic and not premium.

I refuse to open my case or tamper with any of my parts (which is why I'm ordering from Dell.)

I've been looking at dell for two weeks and this is the best build I could do.

If you have a better dell that is DELL sponsored (not some ebay crap) please let me know.

edit: I'm only choosing dell because of the costumer service. I'm a compulsive worry-machine, so that is kinda mandatory. ibuypower and cyberpower suck.

I was thinking about buying parts from newegg and having someone else build the computer, but the total cost (including monitor, o/s, and software) came out almost identical to the dell.

plus, if something went wrong...I'd have to pay the computer guy to open the computer. (again, I will not open my own computer unless I absolutely have to.)

Total comes to $1,110 shipped with 8300GS and 2 gigs of memory.

Add 8800GTS 300 shipped + 50 build fee = $1,450.

However, the 530 comes with a 300 watt PSU. :(

EDIT 2: Screw it. Good luck.

You can't do that. Tell me I'm getting reamed then say good luck.

Now I want to cry. This is my first "real" computer ever.

edit: do you guys know any cheaper vendors that offer similar or better technical/customer support?

please recommend from personal experience..

What? It gets to $1,019.00 (apply coupon code on that page -$350) = $669.00. Shipping = FREE with coupon ($30). It's $669, you didn't apply the coupon on that page starts with PQ$... #6 on that page. Also, you can buy 2GB of ram at newegg for $80 or less... but as for the 8800GTS I don't know if there's clearance for that in Inspiron case, but if there is you can get that as well.

I don't see any coupon for -$350 or free shipping.

Again, I don't want to open my computer.

I want to order everything off of dell. I have no problem buying a better GPU and paying a builder $50 to put it in, as long as it comes out to the same price.

The 300 watt PSU is pretty lacking.

I'm so depressed.

All right.

Good luck, Noobtastic.

It's been a long time, but you have finally made your decision.

Don't worry about the PSU - Dell is responsible for all the components, at least during the warranty period.

Again - best of luck!

I haven't made a decision yet.

Am I getting a good deal, considering my situation and requirements?!!

Hmmm...

No, thanks...

BTW, I think the deal is fine, considering your situation and the Dell warranty.

Get the extended warranty if you can (like 2 - 3 years).

That's what a I did.

But I don't want the 8600GT.

Can the 300 WATT PSU support an x1950pro or 7950GT?

What cards that are better than the 8600GT can run smoothly on a 300 watt PSU?

This deal sounds really good, but remember...I'd have to swap the videocard for something better in addition to $50 for builder fee (which imo is well worth it.)

help?

You have to trust your instincts, Noobtastic.

If you try to "nit-pick' again, it will become a 6 page long thread... again.

Just go with what feels right. Get the GTS - it's not a bad card. They guarantee that the PSU is sufficient, right?

With all due respect - this is my final advice.

Good luck!

Yes, but it's almost $1,500 bucks.

The 510 comes at $900, and add a $200 gpu plus PSU and build fee and it costs the same.

However, I'm just concerned this can't be done.

Is it possible to replace a picky dell 300 watt PSU?

Can a 7900GS run on a 300 watt PSU?

edit:

Any responses?

I think I'm gonna go with the cheaper 530.

The 8600GT can run BF2 maxed out...and since that's the only game I'll be playing, it should be ok.

I'm just super curious if I can replace the PSU and GPU in the future with any adapters.

(I know dell configures their hardware weird.)

responses please!!

edit: I ORDERED It.

1,011 shipped with 2 gigs of memory, E6420 (not 4230..:D), 8600GT, vista premium, media reader, 19' widescreen monitor, 10/100 ethernet (is that worse than 10/100/100?) DVD RW, 320 gig hard drive, mouse/keyboard, etc..

What do you guys think?

I plan on replacing the PSU with a 500 watt and the GPU with a 7950GT or 8800GTS eventually (which would bring the total almost identical to the craptastic XPS 410 and it's 8600GTS.)

8600GT FTW! It can run BF2 MAXED, which is all I need..

Don't waste your time with a new PSU; 300W is plenty to run an 8800GTS. Buy an 8800GTS somewhere for $275 or so and slap it in, and you're done. Frankly, though, we've discussed your needs for pages and pages of repetitive quotes, and I think the 8600GTS will be plenty.

I got the 8600GT.

And no, a 300 watt PSU won't support an 8800GTS.

I'm going to get a 7950GT or 8800GTS along with a new PSU in the next couple of months/years.

If I find the 8600GT to not be sufficient for BF2, then I'll replace it with something else.

I think I got a pretty good deal eh?

What do yall think?

You don't need the PSU. Those of us who jumped on the Acer Quad 6600 deal have 300W PSUs and are happily running quad-core 2.4, 4x1gb, dual tuner TV cards, and various video cards; mine's the 8800GTS/320.

Works great.

You should read the PSU tests on Anandtech sometime. I think you'd quickly see how much power the 8800 series actually needs based on actual tests. :)

I think you should have built it yourself. It would have arrived quicker, been a fun time to put together, and been a *hell* of a lot cheaper. Oh, well. To each his own.

Enjoy your new system.

You didn't see his original posts. He's unwilling to open his case; trust us - a Dell system (or a Mac) is by far the best choice for him.

PS: Beating that deal - without Dell pricey extras - but with 22" Dell monitor is very, very difficult.
