final decision : evga 7900GT KO

hi all..

I was the one who created the topic "sapphire X1900GT" few days ago.

Well.. I was wrong.. after spending hours and hours goggling.. I finally found 1 major disadvantage of the X1900GT.. that is.. VERY HIGH TEMP (89+) compares to 7900GT (60+).

In addition, I found out that X1900GT is only good (fps) for Oblivion game , but for FEAR , BF2, COD, etc, the 7900GT beat the X1900GT (fps) by ALOT.

so thats my final decision: eVGA 7900GT KO

however.. all the advertised $20 rebates expired yesterday !!! do you guys thing there will be rebate coming up soon ??

Thanks 🙂

for a friend's problem:

on new egg, you can get an x1800xt for 210$ but the lowest 7900Gt card i saw was 280$.
would you still pick the 7900gt if you had a very limited budget?

i am definately worried about missing the heat/fan noise with a california climate and no AC 🙂

steven : yes i read that x1800 performs better than the x1900 , cuz x1900 is the budget version of x1800. But they all share a common "no-nos" and thats the high temperature 🙁

Redstar : yea, 7900gt is bout $70 more but I think thats the one I'm definitely getting 🙂 I just have to wait for the next wave or rebates.

I hope there will be no problem of compatibility with my "ASRock 939 dual sata II" / "opteron 148" (8 months old), I still have been using my ATI9800 AGP8x (which I bought for $199 about 3 years ago). So this will be my very first PCI-E graphic card 🙂

good news !! late last night I desperately googled fro special deal (rebates, etc) and look what I've found..

its not "eVGA" and not "KO", but an "MSI" that has been overclocked at the factory.. $275 with $40 rebate ..

That HDCP kinda scares me though !! That means I won't able to watch few of my dvd-ripped movie ? and even AUDIO must have digital right management ? Is this true ? And how do you think its possible to disable this strict hardware ?

ZZF has the x1800xt 512 mb for $209 but it's OOS ATM. Gr8 deal though. I'm not sure about this, but circuitcity.com had a $40 rebate on a 7900gt from XFX making it $220 with free shipping. Another good deal. The 512mb version of the x1800xt will beat the 7900gt on most benches @ stock speeds, oc'ed, the 7900gt competes with the x1900xt, though the x1800xt 512 oc's well too.
