Final choices for new build, I think...

Ok, I believe these are my final choices for parts. I am going to order this stuff from newegg on Thursday. However, if there are any opinions or comments, the are welcome. I sill have a few questions left, though...

1) What other things will I need for the oem products, namely the hard and the floppy drive?
2) Is the took kit listed sufficient as far as the tools I am going to need?
3)Is the anti-static wrist strap going to be enough to protect the components from static electriciy?
4)Is there anything else I need?

Well, any help is greatly appreciated.

in my opinion, the anti-static wrist strap is pointless and a waste of money. touching the aluminum frame of the case is fine, as long as you ground yourself. as for the video card, i say spend $30 more on a video card that is far stronger and actually worth the money by getting the radeon 9800 pro. the 9600 xt is not worth it for its value and it wont be able to handle the newer games too well. as for everything else, it looks great. i would just swtich the cd drive to a samsung because i've heard that samsung drives are very quiet. others would recommend you to get the mobile barton for overclocking. if you plan on overclocking, then the mobile cpu is the way to go. also, unless you have a screwdriver, dont buy that kit.

That is one of the questions I am asking. I really don't know wha tools I'll need. I don't know if ordering the kit would be overkill or not.

the only tool you would need would be a simple screwdriver. building a computer isnt that complex and nerve racking. most people, on their first builds, worry way too much about screwing up and etc. use the money you save on getting the radeon 9800 pro. if you still plan on getting the 9600 xt, get the 9700 pro for the same price for much better performance.

And second the 9700/9800 Pro recommendation.

And a Philips and a large flat-head are all you really need.

The only game I really am going to play is Evequest. Is the 9600xt sufficient for that? Also, I plan on coming back in a month or two and buying another 512 module.

Yeah, that should be sufficient for the original everquest, but what if you decide that you want to play EQ2?

30$ won't make you go bankrupt, I hope. So just get the 9800pro and leave your doors open.

dump that anti static writst band...what a waste of 10 bucks.

and for the price of that 9600XT, you can get a 5900XT which blows it out of the water.

All you need is a phillips screwdriver. Ground yourself regularly on something metal connected to the ground like a metal doorframe or the bare metal part of a faucet. Your Mobo should come with all the IDE/SATA cables you need (they usually do), and your case / ps should have the wires, screws and washers you need to install the board. The retail CPU should come with a HSF and some sort of sufficient thermal interface material.

You will probably need a flathead screwdriver to install the HSF...be CAREFUL, you can easily slip and make a nice new hole in your boad. Take your time and use a fairly wide bladed screwdriver (harder to slip that way)

I haven't followed vid card prices lately, but the 9800 pro is definitely worth $30 extra over a 9600 model. Considering you're saving $25 on tools, just spend the $5.

Good luck. 😀
