Final check on my new system before I buy

I just purchased about the same... (last night baby) except I got an 9800 Pro, and the Chaintech nf3 board. Can't vouch for anything yet... and my HDD's are going to be Raid 80GB Seagate.

My case should arrive today (you can get it cheaper @ AJump, but long shipping). If you plan to OC, get faster RAM. Something qualified for 250 FSB. Reportively, the Cas doesn't matter as much anymore... I bought the A-Data DDR 500 Ram. Again, I can't vouch, but it's 19 bucks more. I have heard great things on Geil. If you aren't OC'ing, go Via, apparantly their board is superior if you aren't oc'ing nor using RAID.

And for the spicy Radeon, I plan on purchasing the this VGA Silencer, http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-186-110&depa=0

It should be sweet in our Sanata case. I also went w/ the retail chip, therefore I get Far Cry. I'll give the OEM HS/Fan a chance... if it's too loud then I'll buy something else.

Looking forward to Linux 64, maybe XP64, but Cool'n'Quiet is just awesome... I jumped from the 2400+ Mobile in the last minute before purchasing. I'm using my classic Athy 500 w/ a V3 3000, so I will be happy no matter what I got. >8)

Keep AnAnd Forums updated with how it goes!

Nice system, but if you're trying to keep it quiet (and it looks like you are) I'd substitute the Thermaltake heatsink with a Zalman 7000A, the AlCu version is very nearly as good as the pure Cu and it's much lighter and cheaper.
Next step I'd take would be to get the VGA Silencer as devrynerd pointed out. My 9700 AIW Pro's stock fan was bothering me in my otherwise quiet case, so I subbed it out in favour of a VGA silencer and I am very very happy with the results. The Samsungs are excellent quiet hard drives, btw.

If you aren't going to OC, I'd just get the retail CPU and use the stock HS Fan. Also, I'd go with Seagate over Samsung for the HD, but that's just personal preference 😉

As mentioned, I'd replace the CPU cooler with a Zalman CNPS7000A-(Al)Cu or a Thermalright SLK948-U, the 9700 Pro with a 9800 Pro (or refurb), and the RAM with ADATA PC4000 (if you're overclocking). The rest looks about right.

That sounds like an excellent system, but I would go with the 9800 pro. Make sure you get all of the free stuff that comes with your items.

Yeah I agree with most of the posts here. If you're NOT overclocking, there's no use for anything OTHER than the stock hsf. And why are you getting the 9700??? Get the 9800! No ifs ands or buts! 😉 And as for the ram, you wouldn't regret getting a superior quality ram like (Corsair, Mushkin, OCZ). Geil is not bad, but it's not the best either. And since you're getting only 512 RAM total, I'd DEFINITELY go for the corsair xms series!

Excellent looking system. There is only one thing you might want to consider: the Thermaltake Silent Boost heatsink. It is extremely quiet, and I can tell that noise matters to you. That currently selected heatsink might be okay, but there are some minor design differences in the Silent Boost that are supposed to make it quieter. I have one in my system, there's one in my father's system, and I put one in my friend's A64 3000+ system.

Also, I can understand your Radeon 9700 Pro selection. It is still $40 cheaper than the Radeon 9800 Pro, which is only about a max of 10-11% faster anyway. I still think the 9700 Pro is an excellent bargain in terms of price/performance ratio.

I put in my order last night, I went with the 9700 pro since the 9800 pro was at least $40 more and I'm already at the limits of my budget. Thanks for all the advice, ill let you guys know how it turns out.
