Yes, this is a list of parts that will work. Now, what is the purpose of the machine? What do you expect out of it, and for how long? Maybe then we can determine if this list can be turned into something that meets those goals. Until then, who can say if this is the right system or not? How much is it costing you?

I see you have a black edition and wonder "is he overclocking? with an nforce board? can't be."

I see the lonely 500 gig disk and wonder what you're doing with the system. and the 4850. are you just gaming at 1280 or 1680, or what? Everything about the build is doable, yet mediocre. Do you own a monitor that is holding you back? Are their budgetary concerns? If you aren't overclocking, have you considered stepping down to a dual core K8 to free up funds for a 4870 1GB?

Its mainly budgetary concerns, i live in New Zealand, and parts are very expensive.
I was intending to use this system for gaming and that is all, i have other computer for storing music videos etc.
Idk if my monitor is holding me back it is a LG Flatron W2252TQ 22 inch LCD.
Can i use the DDR2-1000 for a phenom II.
I dont think i will over clock it idk if i have enough experience with it to be able to do it i also dont know the dangers invovled and the positives of doing it?
Could you suggest another motherboard for me to use. PArts avaliable to me are shown at www.pricespy.co.nz
Thanks for the help

you've got a cpu with an unlocked multiplier and 200mhz bus. ddr2-800 would be more than enough (accodates for 400mhz bus).

looks like a good budget gaming rig. maybe invest 20 or 30 bucks in a cpu cooler if you want to overclock.

Cheers guys may main concern is about the MoBo and PSU(i dont know anything about these parts) will the ones i have selected 1st be able to fit the other parts and 2nd preform well in the tasks that i want them 2 (playing games such as COD4 COD6 Battlefield 2 other Fps)

don't expect to destroy crysis or anything, but all the call of duty games should run great on high at 1680x1050. it's a very viable rig, and you can upgrade to an x4 and a 4890 when those parts becomes cheap. just don't expect to go years without upgrading if you want to play the latest pc games (which are increasingly rare). stuff on the level of x360 ports or lower should run fine, though (though performance for some of those varies widely).

Yeh i am just wondering if i should go with a 520W power supply?
was hoping for this rig to viable for about 3 years

its not buggy, just not the best for overclocking. that doesn't mean it won't surprise you though. and i think you should give overclocking a try. best case scenario, you get a 3.8 GHz quad core for free. in the worst case, you get what you paid for which is a quick dual core. everything else looks ok. don't get a bigger power supply though.

i've been looking at heatsink prices in new zealand. prices are pretty outrageous and the selection is incredibly poor. i saw a cooler master v8 for $111, thermalright ifx-14 for $116 (no fan though), freezer 64 pro for $58. That is some prohibitive pricing if you ask me. Though i still think you should try overclocking. it's safe and you'll probably get 600-800 mhz for the cost of a heatsink.

do you need raid? if the bios is similarly capable on both of them (i personally don't know) i'd get whatever's cheaper.

both boards completely cover the feature set that you need, it's just a matter of which would be a better overclocker, heh. i've seen reports of unlocked phenoms on the nvidia board, oddly.

um they are about the same price i think the nvida chipset is cheaper though
cheers guys for all your help
i think i might give over clocking a go when i got some more money to buy a heatsink
