Final check for new system build

1. Mostly Gaming

2. 1200-1300 budget

3. Buying from Canada, no brand preference

6. using current 1000W PSU

7. Plan to do mild OC.

8. 1080P monitor

9. No software, building it now

CPU: I5-4670k
CPU cooling: 212 evo
Motherboard: Maximus VI Hero
RAM: G.SKILl Ripjaws 2x4G 1600MHZ
SSD: Intel 530 180GB
GPU: EVGA Superclocked GTX 770 2GB (non-ACX version)
PSU: Antec 1000W (overkill+only item reusing from current gig)
Case: Define R4 Window

Concerns:
1)for 10 bucks less, i can use the z87-pro or MSI Z87-G45, thoughts?
2)for 1080P, should i go up to 780
3)R4 windowed for looks, but would it be noticeably louder

Can you update your post with the answers to the questions posed in the sticky? We can't really say whether or not this is a good build without knowing the answers to those questions (budget and intended use primarily).

Don't bump your own post while it's still on the front page without providing new information.

My thoughts:
- CPU: Good
- HSF: Decent enough for mild OC
- Mobo: Way overkill. Something like the ASUS Z87-A gives you plenty of features and can do a moderate OC no problem.
- RAM: Good assuming you're paying about $68 for it.
- SSD : You can get a bigger Samsung 840 EVO 250GB for $175 AP. Samsung's controller is top notch.
- GPU: The GTX 770 is a reasonable choice after the price cuts. However, I think I'd rather have the ASUS DirectCU version for $330 AR
- PSU: Overkill, but reusing as you said.
- Case: Good

very nice advice~
for the mobo, i definitely wanted the z87-a for best bang for the buck. I hate paying alot for mobo. But at my city Hero is on an insane sale now, the price i am looking at:
Z87-A cost about 110, Z87-Pro for 131, Hero for 140, MSI G45 for 130.

what would u pick based on the above price?

I would usually advise getting the cheaper Z87-A, but the price for the VI Hero is too good to pass up. I say go for it!

BTW: I don't think it's a good idea to bump the thread too much, since it's still on the front page. You wouldn't want a mod to have a fit. 😛

That's definitely a very good price on the Hero, but the price on the Z87-A is also extremely nice. It'd stick with the Z87-A. Care to link the source of great deals?

Its actually a bundle deal, 380 for Hero+4670k, and 350 for z87-a+4670k
so its not a specific price for the board
it still works out to be 30 bucks difference

u would still stick with z87-a? hmmm

The only real differences are that Hero has Intel LAN and excellent integrated audio. Both boards have 8-phase CPU power, standard Z87 connectivity (though Z87-A has DisplayPort as a bonus), SLI support. It really comes down to how much you care about the color scheme and audio quality. To really benefit from the better audio, you need a decent quality sound system.

Yep, i understand all that. Normally i would never pick a ROG board cuz of the price. But at a 30 dollar difference, whats ur opinion?

Z87-A does 95% of what VI Hero does for 85% of the cost, but if you want to pay a premium for premium quality sound or red/black color theme, I won't argue. Personally I use discrete audio anyway so I'd pick Z87-A.
