I recently asked about a new build, read alot more, brain exploded... (and then had issues with my company playing silly buggers with my contract) But settled on the following. Any comments/critiques/recommendations welcome. But first the key info:
1) Use - gaming/watching dvds/bluray. Main games - WoW, DoW2, Fallout 3.
(Might get Starcraft 2 when it comes out...)
2) Max budget - 160,000 yen (~$1600)
3) Country - Japan
4) Preferences - None (although availability has stymied some choice)
5) Current parts? - Monitor
6) Searched/read? - More than is healthy...
7) Overclocking? - Maybe a little, but not depending on it (a nice bonus)
8) Resolution? - Currently 1024x768 (crappy old monitor) but will upgrade to 1080p in near-ish future
9) When? - Sat 17th (Weekend trip to Osaka, only 8 hours round trip by bus... got a meeting there anyway & it has a good electronics district)

Case/PSU - Antec P183 + Antec CP850W (32,280 yen)
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA790XTA-UD4 (10,979 yen)
CPU - Phenom II x4 965BE (15,970 yen)
RAM - Corsair DDR3-1600 2x2Gb (15,800 yen)
Cooler - Megahalem (5,970 yen)
HDD/OS Bundle - Hitachi 1Tb/Windows 7 Ultimate 64 DSP (35,120 yen)
Graphics - Not decided yet
Keyboard/Mouse - Not decided yet
*** Questions/Notes:
1) I'm guessing I need a fan for that cooler? It does fit in the case (according to everything I've read...
2) Haven't settled on the graphics card. Originally looking at 5770, but due to a rejig (changed from 1156/i5-750 to current) there's enough money in the pot to move to 5850 or possibly crossfire 5770. Recommendations?
3) Is a DSP OS okay? I've seen that it can cause problems if you upgrade MB. (Currently unlikely here, except due to MB failure)
4) Not included optical drive in there as I have external which will suffice until next month (so not included in budget)
5) How quiet will this be? I'll also be using this to watch films on so can't be too noisy...
I'd like to keep it as far under budget as possible, mostly to assuage guilt 😀 but also so I can put money into a pot for the new monitor (or TV) in a few months time.
