filters for reducing LCD brightness?

Many LCDs are very bright even at lowest settings. Would it work well to use an external filter to reduce the brightness? Curious if that would work well in principle. I don't think that anyone makes such filters but presumably you could buy a sheet and cut to size.

No-one tried these or know whether there would be loss of quality through a filter?
Would be useful for reducing brighness and improving black level.
 
So, you reduce the brightness on your monitor to 0 and it is still too bright?
That's not normal!

I'm sure you can find some kind of 3M monitor filter that will double as a brightness reducer.

And remember, with lots of LCDs you have to reduce the contrast the reduce the backlight.
 
Wait, Brightness to 0 should = no light at all.

Time for RMA?? And if you still want a filter, you might have to get an oversized 20.1 or something like that since 19in widescreens arn't that popular.

And I have to admit, my VP930b was a bright monitor when I got it, but that was with the brightness at 100%.

brightness zero will only be no light at all on the LED monitors coming soon

lower your contrast to help the brightness... 0 brightness should be tolerable, i run mine at 0 brightness 100 contrast... and it looks fine, took a few days to get used to

you could try changing brightness and gamma etc in control panel for video cards
 
I hear ya re: LCD brightness. The way I solved my problem was to return the Dell LCD I bought after a few weeks and buy a new CRT instead. 🙂
 
What kind of Video card do you have (brand like ATI or Nvidia). Because you know you should be able to turn down the gamma in the CP. (make it less bright).
