Filter malicious content at the gateway?

I seem to recal reading an article a few months back about an OSS app that would filter malicious code such as spyware and viruses at the gateway on linux, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for on google. Has anyone heard of this?

Yeah squid-ng and hogwash both do mangling (I think) I found something (and it may have been what I read about) called privoxy that filters ads popups cookies etc. I may just need to layer several proxies together.
