Now, I brush twice a day just like everyone else, drink plenty of water, etc. But for some reason, quite often when I look in the mirror and stick my tongue out, it's covered in a white, almost milky substance. It's kinda gross, and it doesn't taste wonderful either. It's just like some sort of mucus.

What is this, and how do I keep it from forming around my tongue all the time?

Other than brushing, flossing and rinsing, nothing. It's just food/skin/mucous as you said, and it's totally normal.

It's possible. Depending on what kind of "fish" you ate, it might be a colony of bacteria there. Down some rubbing alcohol.

There's already thousands of colonies of bacteria in your mouth. :p

Mouthwash along with brushing your tongue should be effective.

Wow, you need to go back to Highschool Biology. :p

Unless I'm misunderstanding you. The bacteria in your mouth play little if any role in digestion. :p

Sorry let me clarify, Enzymes produced in the body by the liver, pancreas and gallbladder process
food in the stomach and small intestine, enzymes in saliva begin this process. Bacteria help in that they catalize or help the salivary glands start production.

Yuck - I remember this girl in high school who's mouth was always filled with that, and whenever she talked it was all over and made me nauseas just looking at her.

Try this:

1. In the morning, drink a glass of lemon juice. Mix some reconstituted lemon into a glass of water, and drink.
2. At night, open a capsule of Probiotic Complex into your mouth and let set for 30 seconds, then drink down with a little water. (something like this.) Do this after you brush your teeth and just before bed.

I can only guess that it's caused by systemic constipation, i.e. your entire digestive system is running too slow and food/bacteria is backing up. The lemon juice will correct the acidity in your stomach and the probiotic will increase the efficiency of your digestive system (by creating enzymes and helping food flow faster). Do that for a few weeks and report back to me!
