Do companies check you work history and if so do they have a way of finding out where you worked if you don't put that one on the application?
ie, I don't want to put down a paper route job. Would they be able to find out that I had a paper route job?

However, they might be a little suspicious if you put down "Super Secret Agent".

They may verify things that you do list, but won't check for your full history unless it's for a security clearance.

It looks odd if there is a gap in history for jobs after graduating college, but up until then gaps don't mean anything.

unless you're filling out an SF-86, I doubt they'd be able to find out anything that you don't list.

No offense intended, but if you are talking about a paper route, I'm assuming your work history is thin (ie. you aren't very old) or is not for a very technical position. In either case, you probably don't have to worry about a potential employer checking your job history too closely.
