You could at least link to the actual form: https://marketplace.cms.gov/applications-and-forms/religious-sect-exemption.pdf

It appears this only exempts you from the fee for not having any health insurance.

"If everyone just waited until they got sick to obtain coverage than health insurance companies couldn’t afford to provide insurance and everyone’s premium rates would become unaffordable. If everyone just used emergency services (which are paid for by tax dollars) then tax payers would be in hot water. Remember anyone can have an accident and most people will use health related services in their life. Just like car insurance, you have to have it to cover you the “what if” scenario. Of course, insurance also helps to promote wellness and prevention. In theory, a healthier population now will curb treatment costs of Americans as age."

One can also just pay the penalty (if you choose).

It will come out of a refund, it can not be forced to be paid with the regular taxes if you owe.

It is not that easy. Check the form I linked. The form is a chance to get a special code to put on your return. Also it makes subtle mention that they investigate the claims and you are in deep doo doo if they catch you in a lie.

They going to question your Amish cred? Grow a chin strap and wear a straw hat and you are good to go.

Folks, first reply of this thread says you must own 10% or more of an LLC or partnership in order for this for to apply to your taxes. If I'm understanding correctly, anyone that does this is going to get audited and get their ass paying the penalty.... and more for trying to lie.

Happy Refund Season!

:puke

I'm fine with paying someone to do work I don't want to do. I happily pay for oil changes and that kind of thing. But paying a company hundreds of dollars to do what took me literally 5 minutes on taxact for free?

That place preys on the ignorant.

The Amish pay for their medical treatment. On average they tend to use less services but their community pays for it and while they do not have commercial insurance there are community funds which amount to insurance with a cash pool being in place.

Fun fact- the Amish have the same lifespan as the rest of us, about 72 years, which has not changed over the last 300 years.

So when we were dying in our 40s not so long ago they had 30+ years to go.

Amish don't focus on personal wealth like we do. All of their money goes to the church which then takes care of the community. My great aunt would make really nice quilts that were sold at Shipshewana. These were really expensive, hand made, expensive quilts. She kept no money, just bought more supplies and the rest went to the church.

I said it before and I'll say it again.
Just buy the damn insurance.
It's a win win win win.
Win, no tax penalty.
Win, healthcare insurance.
Win, I'll won't have to pay your ER bill.
Win, no bankruptcy court.

If you can prove you are indeed the true Superman, deflecting bullets, bending steal, out running locomotives, then maybe you don't need heath insurance.
And for the non supermen out there and refusal to believe anything bad can happen to me, I say famous last words.
And hopefully, not your last words bleeding in some ER.

Intended by the Republican controlled Supreme Court that made this ruling? Good to see GOP is turning around to universal single payer :)

Let's look at those Amish.

Win, no tax penalty.
Win, no need for insurance.
Win, I don't have to pay their ER bill.
Win, no bankruptcy court.

Fail- your nonsense doesn't apply at all, but thanks for being the forum bot!
