I will OC, but what's the best bang for the buck? I had X2 before and loved it, should I go AM2 or Conroe, I am after real gamign performance vs charts 🙂

cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo, pick the one that suits your budget best and OC the hell out of it
mobo: Either the 965P or 680i chipset. The latter should give the ultimate OCing performance, but supposedly has issues (which may be worked out in the firmware) and is very pricey. Stick with reputable brands like Asus, Gigabyte, eVGA, Abit, etc.
ram: 2x1GB DDR2-800 from good brands like Mushkin, Corsair, etc
hd: raptor x (I would argue this isn't worth the money and you'd get much more bang for the buck from a Seagate 7200.10 16mb cache HD)
video: xfx 8800 gts
dvd: samsung sata 18x
psu: corsair hx520
case: sonata II
--> don't forget sound card/speakers/monitor...
