I knew this would happen...which is why I started the thread about American forces going in. My father is Filipino and we visited the Phillipines when I was little...but one things comes to mind - they're extremely poverty stricken and I wouldn't trust their government to build a proper road let alone assemble an elite squad of troops to and coordinate a successful mission.

It's too bad American forces weren't in there...at least you guys have satellites covering you a$$, and bombs accurate enough to drop in somebody's second-floor toilet!

I'd say that if the hostages haven't already been killed by their captors, they sure as will be killed by the bombing from the Phillipine air force.

But then again...I'm not so sure the objective of the Phillipines was to release these hostages safely but simply but an end to this rebel group.

The thing is the main rebal group who the govt spends most of the time attacking have nothing to do with the hostage takers & actually won't have anything to do with them.

Really the group that took the hostages are just a bunch of gangsters, claiming to be muslem rebals. The've been doing this for years, the only difference is that they are di-verging & taking hostages of many different varieties, whereas in the past they mainly specialised in Manilla cronies or Chinese business types or their relatives.

surely you would have more faith than that, being of Filipino blood? after all, the Philippines did fight with the Americans in the second world war, and have a military power that is equally important (when it comes to defending their own country, of course)...

what am i saying?! let's bring in the elite israeli forces and get this over with! :)

It's about damn time the Phillipine govdrmnent did something.I commend them for going in to defend the sovernty of thier homeland, but it should have been done a loing time ago. You do not negotiate with criminals. Just cut there heads off and put them on a stick to remind others of there ilk that the same fate awaits those who repeat this folly of hostage taking and terrerist activities.

Sorry about the spelling.I type with 2 fingers really fast(I know, get Mavis Beacon teaches typing and learn to type)and that is part of it,plus I am dumb.

(Do you think we could persuade Zuni to include a spell checker in the reply field tool bar?)
