I simply want to share files back and forth between my friend and I using Filezilla server. I use the client on a daily basis at work, and thought I'd try out the server at home. After installing and configuring, my friend get's a "failed to connect." I am hooked up via cable and a DLink DI-524 router. I have checked the FAQ/answers page in the Filezilla server forums, but still have had no luck. I am able to logon from with my LAN, but outside is unable. I have opened up port 21 in the router and windows firewall(as well as turing it off).

I have searched many sites for solutions to no avail. Anyone familiar with filezilla server?

You probably need to setup port forwarding. If you try it without the router it should work fine. You need to forward port 21 to your PC that is running the FTP software.

As I initially stated, I am pretty sure I forwarded port 21. I also believe I have a static ip as I have cable which is constantly on. I imagine it has to be something in the settings I am doing wrong...?

Typically cable internet providers don't provide a static ip, while DSL does. You could try NoIp to setup a static IP. Sounds like you are sure you have the port opened but to double check portforward will provide a great guide for you. Also the one thing that held me up last time I set this up was to make sure to go into windows firewall and make sure that filezilla server.exe was added to the exception list, make sure you didn't add the filezilla interface.exe, I'm pretty sure you need to do this in addition to opening port 21.
