I was trying to setup a media server for the housesold using an old pc. I hooked it up to my Linksys WRT54G with an ethernet cable. My regular pc is also hooked up this way. I was able so setup workgroups and give permissions to the folders I want shared. But the only way I can get the two XP Pro boxes to access eachother is to turn off Zonelarm on both of them. Is this normal or am I missing something obvious?

With regular Zone Alarm, yes, you are probably never going to get it to work properly. With Zone Alarm Pro, I believe this particular version of ZA works with file sharing amongsts networked computers. I learned the hard way too. You should be rather safe behind your hardware/router firewall and if you use SP2's firewall.

I've tried that myself and people on this very forum have said it's almost impossible.

Interesting. I use ZA on all my computers and don't have this problem. I'll have to check how I have it setup.

(My media is stored on a Netgear NAS unit)
