fileplanet not free....this sucks!

I just spent 20 bucks on a stand-alone CS CD....I thought I was ready to go..then got the DLL error, so people advised me to go to fileplanet to download the new patch...but they weren't free!
I wonder where I can get free patch?

First of all, FilePlanet is free. Their personal servers are extra. Just grab the download off one of the public servers.
Secondly, why did you buy CS, when you could have just downloaded it from FilePlanet.com?
Don't make false assumptions, as for answering your question, did you try:

public server....have to wait more than 2 hours for it to begin to download...with my 56k and at least 50meg at stack....that's not very clever.
and I think I didn't make myself clear, I was actually blaming CS rather than fileplanet.
people spend 20 bucks on a game, just to get stuck while trying to play?

there are plenty of other sites where you can download CS patches from

Go to CS.net and they have a link to tons of mirrors ....

FilePlanet is suck right now. Some files are readily available to the public, but I've run into files that were only available through the member servers. Twice I tried to become a member and I couldn't get past the application page! argh! :|

As I am now in CS.NET...I am wondering which should I download? the full version? or just the updater?
To clear things up, I have only installed the stand alone CS CD...nothing about half-life or other stuff..
help plz 🙂

Counter-Strike retail does work out of the box, without Half-Life. However, CS is regularily upgraded, and you need the patched version to play online. You can get the patches on every major download site, heaps of links are available on CS.net download page (as mentioned before). You have to look out for the file called "HL: CS Retail 1.0.0.2 Full Patch", named cd1002.exe, weighing in at 50 megs.

If you bought the retail edition, you don't need Half-Life. But to play on public servers, you will need the latest patch. Follow Moonbender's link and get the full patch.

Who else thinks FilePlanet is getting too big for it's boots and seems to have forgotten what they originally set out to do. I understand banners don't pay anymore and they have to look at other ways to keep up and running but it's got a bit sour now.....
