Filed my income taxes through intuit.com...

The federal income portion was free to file. No problems. No complaints.

Later on, I realized, I still needed to file my state one so I decided to do it through intuit again even though it was $25.95 (since I didn't want to re-enter all my info into another service).

I lived in two states last year, Illinois and Tennessee. However, Tennessee does not have a state income tax so I did not have to file. Somehow, the website made me pay for 2 filings, one for illinois and one for tennessee.

Since my state income taxes were never submitted through their service, i requested a refund for $25.95.

In my first email attempt, the guy looked through my records yet could not find that I had been charged for anything.

In my second email attempt... this is where things get ridiculous... the person stated:
In response to the concern you sent us, John I would like to you to delete your Tax Return for Tennessee since you have not yet E-filed. John kindly contact us through Chat Support regarding your problem in order to assist you well. Our Chat Support will assist you and determine if we have to make a refund for your case.

So I decided to see how much live chat is...

$39.95

So now they expect me to pay $39.95 to get back $25.95 even though there's no guarantee I'll even get it back.

Should I dispute this with my bank (i used debit card to pay) if I can't get my refund?

Anyone else have a problem like this... thanks!

That is the reason that you pay attention to the tax thread and use www.statetaxfreedom.com.

You made the choice to not re-enter your data and pay for the state tax filing.

You also must have selected at some point to file Tenn taxes (by default) and never unselected it. This may have been an oversight due to the other tax state (Illinois) being selected.

You apparently selected multiple states to file/process and they charged you according to your selection.

When I check the website to see what taxes were filed, only my federal income tax and illinois state tax shows up as being filed.

If it showed Tennessee as being filed, then I would agree and not argue with them but it does not show up as one I submitted. I also made sure it was unselected when filing my state returns.

There is a difference between what is filed and what you selected to process.
The system may know that Tenn can not be filed, however, if you originally selected it, that that is what stands.

Intuit loves to set up the trickery to suck in the suckers that to not pay 110% attention when filing is done. :(

Uhh.. yeah. You are a moron. Not to flame, but in all seriousness the web app spells things out FAR better than the program. If you seriously entered credit card information COMPLETELY disregarding the text on the screen in front of you, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

People like you frustrate me because you think corporate America is all out to get you, when the truth is you're in such a big hurry you skip the important things.. like, you know.. READING AND COMPREHENSION.

It sucks when business model of a company includes tricking out users, it shouldn't be happening in cut-throat industry that is tax preparation. You can be smart and go somewhere else next yr. I have been using them in last 5 yrs because of convenience of importing prev. yr. info.

You are supposed to log-in from the state farm website anytime you want to send the tax return to the IRS. It happened to me too. I logged in from intuit's website and notice there was a charge, but then I logged in from state farm's website and then it was free for both federal and state.
