File won't run or extract on 64-bit

I wasn't sure where to put this, but here goes...

Is there a way to extract a 16-bit or 32-bit-but-can't-run-on-64-bit-OS installshield file on 64-bit Windows?

I'm not sure if it is 16-bit or 32-bit, but it is dated 1997. I have been told that this worked in Vista 64-bit just fine, and I ran it myself on Vista or Win7 (I'm fairly sure it was Win7 but I can't remember).

If not, is Hyper-V the easiest way to run a VM? I have no use for a VM, but I am willing to set one up for this (why? I have no clue! lol).

I am trying to install the Final Reality benchmark (just for kicks) but it will not install on Win10 64-bit.

I just ran into this problem with 3DMark99 Max, but I was able to use Universal Extractor to get at the files in the executable. After that, it installed and ran just fine (after copying ddraw.dll into the 3DMark99 folder).

Well, with FR, this isn't happening. Windows is telling me it will not run on Win10, and when I tried to extract the contents of setup.exe it failed. So, I tried a shortcut with switches - "/s /extract_all" - which gave me the same error (can't run on this version of windows). I tried all compatibility modes with no luck.

Any ideas?

Sounds simple, but did you try running the executable in compatibility mode?

I tried a couple VMs last night with VMWare Workstation Player . Windows XP couldn't recognize Direct3D right, so it ran it, but I don't think it ran the full test. Windows 7 32-bit running in Windows XP compatibility mode seems to run it with no issues. I had never run that benchmark before (I mainly stuck with 3dMark back to the 2001 version), so I wouldn't be able to tell you if it ran everything the way it was supposed to.

Alright, I went ahead and installed VMWare and installed XP (7 wouldn't install for some reason) and it went off without a hitch.

I installed Final Reality then copied the folder it was installed to over to Win10 and it ran without a problem.

I scored 82.8 reality marks! lol

Thanks 🙂

P.S. By the way, I was confused about Hyper-V, I was thinking of Virtual PC but obviously that doesn't run in Win10.
