File Transfer

In the forum, addressing a networking issue, someone suggested connecting two computers together directly (i.e; bypass the router) to see if they would communicate. My question is; Can I connect two XP SP2 computers at the ethernet ports, eliminating the hub, for file transfer using Windows Files and Settings Transfer Wizard?

yes, IF you use a cross over cable. Hubs and switches cross the transmit and receive pairs over internally. If you don't use one of these, you need a cross over cable.

Thanks. So,if I take a some cat5 and a pair of 45 connectors and the connectors facing the same way, I put both BLUE left, etc. , instead of one left and the other right, etc., I'd have a crossover cable?
