Hi everybody, my girlfriend has a kind of old laptop, i 500 mhz P3, we want to reformat her hard drive and put Windows 2000 on it. She doesnt have a cd burner but does have a network card. She is running Windows 98 SE and im running Windows XP Pro. I want to set up a network link to transfer all her important files to my computer. I dont want to buy a hub, switch or anything like that. I know there is a way to do it but i dont remember how. Thanks very much.
 
what exactly is a crossover cable? i have a network cable, i think it is a patch cable, would that work or would i have to buy a crossover cable?
