File transfer through a USB?

Okay so this might be a lame question, but I just gotta make sure. Those who use external hds have done the usual copy/paste from HD to XHD. But has anyone did a file(s)/folder copy from XHD to XHD? Like one XHD hooked up to one USB port and the other one hooked up to another USB port, then copy the contents from one XHD to another XHD. Is there any risk of file corruption? Anyone had any problems doing this? Thx in advance.

EDIT: Also what happens when one of the USB ports is a 1.1 and the other is a USB2 port?

Shouldn't be a problem as long as the settings for each device are set correctly.

I've copied folders to my USB and then from my USB to another System that only has 1.1 USB ports with no problems.

As long as both USB mass storage devices are connected to the host system, there should be no problems at all transferring files between them. Particularly if USB 1.1 is involved, it may well be a rather slow operation; but there is no reason for it to fail(Unless your Mobo is known for really ghastly USB problems. In that case, it should fail dramatically and detectably).

And you can do it beyond USB as well - I move files between USB externals and Firewire externals regularly. No problem. As long as the drives are "seen" by Explorer, you can drag and drop stuff between them.

I transfered some files over from xhd to xhd.. both hooked up to USB2 ports.. but for some odd reason they take about twice as long. It seems im getting USB1.1 speeds instead of 2 when transfering through USB. However if i copy to an internal hd THEN transfer to an xhd, the speeds are much faster. Any explainations on this guys?

It could be that the USB2 ports you are using are implemented with an internal hub. 480Mb/s theoretical, per root port, divided between two ports, gets you roughly half speed. This sort of configuration isn't as uncommon as it should be.

I bet that if you were transferring from one root port to another(eg. Mobo port to PCI addon port) you'd get more or less the speeds you would expect.
