file transfer between to home comps

hi i have 2 computers connected together with a linksys switch (btw im on cable) and in the past if i wanted to transfer files to my other comp i would turn on my ftp server and use flashfxp from my other comp to access the files to transfer. i do a lot of clean installs of xp on both comps and do a lot of tweaking, anyways my problem is that i remember being able to transfer to my other comp at about 1000 kB/s but now it only goes at about 70 kB/s and i dont know what setting i used before to get that hi speed...would appreciate if someone can help thanks

unplug the internet and reconfigure your network as one with no internet, then the two computers can "talk" to eachother, this is how its done at small lan parties
