Depends on the bitrate and codec/quality settings, but assuming 4,000 kbps it would be 450MB (low quality).

Double that for 8,000 kbps, if you wanted better quality. I'd use that bitrate if going with a codec like x264 for computer playback. For archival purposes or using another codec, you would need to go even higher.

If it was full quality, about 5GB. But more realistically, 1-2 GB if you reduced the quality.a

While this thread is around.....

What would be the best compression settings for ripping a DVD? I'd like to rip it to h.264 for playing on my android phone. If I could get the file size to around 1 gig, that would be perfect.

I use the Fair Use Wizard 2 for ripping. You dont need to pick specific settings if you dont want to. Just specify a 1gb output file and it does the rest for you. You can pick divx, Xvid, or H264.

Hey, has anyone noticed the icon for the Fair Use Wizard is a giant FU?

I'm using 1,000 kbps for my BB Storm with MPEG-4 (A bit overkill, actually, could probably set it a lot lower). ~575 kbps (or 450 kbps 2-pass) with default FPS (29.97) and resized to native video resolution (or close to it, if you need to maintain aspect ratio of source, like if your video is 16:9 you don't want to crop it to fit screen) for your phone should be good, along with LC-AAC audio between 96 kbps and 160 kbps.

I don't know what software you are using (I use MeGUI, HandBrake, or SUPER after ripping MPEG-2), but those general settings should work well.
