Hi,

I am new to XP and I am trying to transfer/share files between my Mac and my new PC. I know that this can be done, and I've been lead to believe that it's a fairly simple process, but after 4 hours of tinkering I'm getting nowhere!

I have Windows XP home and Mac OSX (10.2.3) the two computers are connected with a crossover cable and I've enabled file sharing on the Mac side and I think I did with XP, but I'm not sure. I've tried "pinging" the two but it seems that they are simply not recognizing one another.

When I try to set up XP for networking, I keep getting a wizard which tries to help me with the connection, but it doesn't seem to give me the right options. This is a fresh install of XP do I need to custom install something for ethernet file sharing? Again, I'm a novice with XP.

When I go to Network Places, I see a modem connection, a 1394 connection (interesting because I haven't connected anything else), and when I try to set up a new connection, I get options for FTP, but nothing for direct crossover cable conncection.

I've read MANY different articles on this and it sounds like just connecting the computers with the right cable and enabling sharing should do it.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff
