File sharing Windows 7 & XP.

Why does XP ask for the Admin username & password of the 7 machine? Well so does my Wii.... Can I turn that off? Should I and can I make a specific username & password for networking?

As I wouldn't mind a username & password for accessing networked folders just not the admin username & password that I use on my 7 machine for security reasons.

I can't seem to find the answers. Driving me insane!

Thanks.

If I share public folders on the 7 machine. It shares without asking for the username & password of the 7 admin on the xp machine?

You can turn the Guest account On and allow full access to the Guest Group.

Then you will be able to log to places that are allowed to share with Guests.

Is there a way to use a different username and password for network folders?

What is the risk of using the admin user name & password?

check control panel, under network and sharing
there should be a selection for accounts, sharing, and password controls.

another way is to add matching username & password on both PC

I did turn off passwords.

However both the Wii & XP PC ask for the Admin username & password.

Like I said if I can either change the username & password or remove it. That'd be cool.

Just seems to me entering your Admin username & password to access network files is a security risk. Or is this normal?

I don't get it. I just been searching all over & finding different answers....Yet nothing directly for Windows 7 & XP?

Anything have experience in my case?
