File sharing - Win 2k and Win 98 SE

I had my LAN set up, no problems with both computers running SE. I recently upgraded to Win 2k on one machine, the one I use. I set everything up, finally got them to find each other. I then made a user name for the other computer, all seemed well. I even figured out how to share my dialup connection. The only two things I've had trouble with, are that I cannot get the Win2k machine to allow it's files to be shared, I have it enabled and everything, with all the drives added. When I go to the Network Neighborhood on the older cpu (win 98) it brings up the two names, and when I click on the 2k computer name, it just brings up a blank screen. The other problem is that everything runs slow, printing, and browsing the hd of the (98) machine through the lan, it use to be fast, but now at the base screen, it takes for-ev-er to load.

goto start->settings->control panel->users and passwords.
set up a user for win2k that your other machine will be. If your login says jonnydoe on the win98 machine then set up a user with a username of jonnydoe and same for the password (this CAN be left blank). After that it should have no problems connecting to it.

The w2k default shares (they end with an "$&quot😉 can't be accessed over the network. Create new shares, giving them any name you like, and give access permission to "everyone".

All the $ symbol at the end of a share name does is make it invisible to people browsing the network. You can still connect to the administrative shares net use and an administrative account.
