File sharing strangeness in Windows 2000

Hey all,

I have file and print sharing on on my home LAN. I used to have 2 WIn98 SE machines, but now the one with the big drives, the scanners, the printers, etc (the server, if you will) is running Win2K. I can see the computer from the network neighborhood on the 98 machine, and I can log in fine (I disabled security stuff, enabled guest, etc...). --And all I get is my printer. None of the folders I share show up. Now, when I check my win2K computer FROM my Win2K computer in the network places, I can see all the folders, and everything is there that I SHOULD see in the Win98 machine. --But all I see on the Win98 machine is my PRINTER. --And I can print to it fine through the network, so I am DEFINITELY connected right. --Also, I CAN see everything shared on the Win98 computer from my Win2K computer.

So, what gives?

what folder are you sharing out? you cannot share out C$ and ADMIN$(winnt) unless you login as Administrator or an user with Administrative rights. so, when you share out a folder click the button "New Share" and give it a name and permission rights(if you want to give permission). i usually login as Administrator because its my network.

I was just sharing out some random folder. I had not done the "new share" thing. I didn't think it was important. I was just turning sharing off. --But now it works. You rock, my man. Thank you.

i just finished this 1500 page book on windows 2000 server. i know my win2k sh@t now. i totally recommend one of those huge manuals on 2000. make sure it has a comprehensive index!
