Hey all,

I have file and print sharing on on my home LAN. I used to have 2 WIn98 SE machines, but now the one with the big drives, the scanners, the printers, etc (the server, if you will) is running Win2K. I can see the computer from the network neighborhood on the 98 machine, and I can log in fine (I disabled security stuff, enabled guest, etc...). --And all I get is my printer. None of the folders I share show up. Now, when I check my win2K computer FROM my Win2K computer in the network places, I can see all the folders, and everything is there that I SHOULD see in the Win98 machine. --But all I see on the Win98 machine is my PRINTER. --And I can print to it fine through the network, so I am DEFINITELY connected right. --Also, I CAN see everything shared on the Win98 computer from my Win2K computer.

So, what gives?

i shared my win2k stuff through guest. I've found a few things. You have to have a password for the guest account no matter what. Also you might have to install IPX on the win2k machine.

Yeah, you have to assign yourself permission for your other computer... Create an account for your auto-login name for your win98 system on your win2k system, and don't give it a password, and you should be able to access everything...

Yeah, you have to create an account on the win2k machine for the win98 to log on and then in drive properties, you can assign the permissions for that user for access.

you have to think NT when you think of win2k...so things are a bit different than for win95/98

I'm pretty sure you can share an NTFS volume to a windows9x machine over a network. Remember the server is doing all the disk access.

I could be wrong but I could swear I have it set up like that at home.
