File Sharing Problem, please help.

I'm trying to transfer music files from a desktop to a laptop. I put the music files from the desktop in the shared folder, connected to 2 computers with a crossover cable, but I can't access the files from the laptop. Both computers have Windows XP w/ SP2. Please help. I tried disableing the Windows firewall, but that did nothing. Thank you.
