File Sharing prob in XP -- asking for password?

Vageetasjn

These are errors I am receiving when trying to access other XP computers on the network.

error
error2

There are no admin passwords on any of the comps and the file/transfer wizards have been run. How should I solve this to be able to conduct simple file sharing?

edit: after checking printer and file sharing as an exception in the xp firewall, I only receive error2. So how should I bypass this problem?

Thanks

Thanks for the help, but running the wizard again seems to have fixed the file sharing problem. My only problem now is getting the printer recoginized on the network. Details can be found here: Anand thread

Man I need help with this also...please!
I get error # 1

I have checked the box in firewall setting for the printing and file sharing.
I enabled guests user account.

The computer accessing my system is getting the errror and it has no pw.
My computer has a pw.
I also tried adding the computer log on name in my accounts setting but it didn't work.

How can i get other computers to see my shared stuff?

Thanks!

This has been answered a bunch in the Networking forum, but I'll reiterate the nuts and bolts of it here:

I'm assuming you are not running on a domain, and unless you turn on simple file sharing, you will need to know a local username and password to access any other PC that happens to be on the peer to peer network.

This means if computers A, B, and C are on the network, A has users bob and jim, B has users sally and jennifer, and C has users poop and pee (all local users mind you), for sally on computer B to access something on computer A, she must know bob or jim's password (or the local administrator password, but try to not get in the habit of using it)

Thanks for the reply!

Well... if i only get error 1 ... where do i enter the pw?
The user names and pw are all entered in each computer's account...

ex: computer A has lostboy and losty
computer B has lostboy and losty

Lostboy on A can access Losty on B
Losty on B can't access Lostboy on A

sup with that?

losty on b might not have the right permissions set, right click

my computer>manage>local users and groups> users>lostboy and check his permissions versus those on computer a. i'm thinking he is only a user as opposed to both user and administrator on comp b but on comp a he is both. make sure your permissions are the same for all accounts on both pc's
