File sharing only works for Secondary Hard Drives

I reinstalled XP yesterday, and since then I haven't been able to get anything to share from my C drive. Shares on my two secondary hard drives work just fine but for some reason no folder on C works. I even tried sharing the root directory to no avial. I set the folder to share as normal, it shows up on the network from other computers, but they can't open the share when they double click. An XP laptop, OS X desktop, and Xbox Media Center all report errors or just do nothing when a share from the C drive is selected, but work just fine with a share from another drive. Any ideas?

First of all, when you say root, do you mean sharing the c drive itself?

Second, have you tried sharing a single folder?

Third, are you using XP pro?

If so, are you using simple file sharing or not?

(my computer>folder options>view>check the box labeled 'use simple file sharing')

I am using XP pro. I meant the sharing of anything on the C drive does not work, whether I try sharing individual folders or the whole drive. By root, yes I meant just trying the share the root directory of the C drive, that is not normally how I would have things set up, it was just a test, and it didn't work. Advanced sharing is currently off because I have no need of the advanced options, though I did briefly turn it on just to see if it would help, it didn't.

If I'm not being clear, here is a shortened, but representative, list of my shares:

"Drivers" (D:\drivers\) WORKS
"Music" (D:\music\) WORKS

"Pictures" (C:\pics\) DOESN'T WORK
"TV" (C:\tv\) DOESN'T WORK

When a share from C is selected on the Mac for instance, "the original item could not be found" or on the Xbox I select it, the gui makes the sound it makes when you enter a folder, but doesn't actually enter the folder. XP on another machine gives another error, I forget the wording. They all have no issue with the shared music folder for instance, but that is not on C:\.
