File sharing between PC and MAC

I have a PC and my friend has a mac, we have them connected with a linksys router. But neither of us have figured out how to do file sharing. I thought I had heard it was real easy to do, and searching around I came across something called SMD & CISF, but I don't really know what they are. Is there any easy way to do this?

Samba. I believe with OSX it's as easy as just enabling it. I havent done it myself though.

We haven't gotten it to work really. I was actually able to see his computer on the network but he couldn't figure out how to share his files. All I seen was a new user folder with empty dirs under my login name which we don't want. And he was never able to see my computer from his mac.

Try this for setting up the OSX shares

From the Mac, try going 'Connect to Server' (in one of the Finder menus I think) and entering the IP address of the XP PC

You may also need what is called MSUAM

It alows you to log in to MS shares that require encrypted passwords and such. Don't know if it's aplicable to what your doing, but if your getting authenfication errors, check this out.

In OS X go to System Preferences > Sharing

Then check the box next to "Windows Sharing".

Then you can connect to the mac from a Windows PC.
