I am saying that any one that has filetraded on bittorrent lately (witch has blown up tremendously), would have probably noticed how fast it is. From my point of view, in less than a year it will be easier to download a program and burn it than it would be to just todrive tothe store and pick up a program or something.

This isn't about costs, when kazaa was huge, people would spend nearly a week at least to download a program, with bittorrent it is probably possible to download a 700 mb file in less than a day (maybe just a few hours), if there was enough bandwidth from the seaders?

Any personal thoughts?

If I were to ever download a 700mb say of some anime I could get in just a few hours...without using bittorrent...
 
Sounds like you're writing a paper or something. 😉 Yes, it's very much possible to download 700MB in a couple of hours provided you have enough upload to give also. As for driving to the store vs. doing this... I'd say if it's really this easy to acquire anything, it takes a lot of morals to keep from getting it the free way. Your point about it taking a week to download something shows exactly how far people would go to save money, especially if it's readily available at no cost.

You can download from DC hubs without even sharing much... especially if you're in private hubs.

DC++ > bitorrent. However, I know personally that the authorities scan the hubs cause they've reported me to my university twice. I just share 40gb of TV rips now, no official agency really scans for those, and havent' been bothered since.
 
i'm new to BT, how do i get faster downloads? several times i tried and it sits around 5-6 kb/sec when normally i d/l at around 150-160kb/sec from elsewhere. is it because i have nothing to share cus i downloaded nothing due to the slow speed?
 
DC++ is not > Bittorrent when it comes to download speeds.. a properly firewall or port forwarding will always yield full download speed from a well seeded torrent. With DC++ I'm always finding myself waiting in a queue for some file for days only to find the one guy with the file i need is on 56k

direct connect is better for 'browsing' files and variety of older stuff. but for 0-day torrent rocks. Used to be usenet's king of the hill, but now torrents are always out before someone finished a usenet upload

And yes, the 'authorities' (read: MPAA and RIAA, not FBI) are watching bittorrents. which is why I stick to only downloading TV shows from torrents, anything of a less legal nature I stick to usenet

Are you on a router? Do you have Port Forwarding setup correctly?

Is that a PRIVATE DC hub ?
 
Usenet? expensive? nah, its free... while I have bought about $20-$30 worth of bandwidth from easynews over the years, 99% of the time I get everything from my isp's free newsservers. Cox cable limits download speed to 150kb/sec but thats usually 'good enough' and while they say they limit you to 3gb/day, I've downloaded 20 gigs in a day from usenet and they've never said a word
