I have an old AMD K6-2 computer sitting in the basement rite now... is it possible to turn it into, lets say, an FTP server? It'll probably be running on Linux I'm guessing. I know very little about servers... help me get started!!
 
yes it is possible. Put a big hard drive in it. Install linux and learn how to setup an ftp server. Linux distros like ubunto make this all pretty easy
 
Use VNC to access the computer, that way you do not need a mouse or monitor (I would keep a keyboard attached just in case).
