I'm running windows server 2003 and I'm having a problem when 2 users connect to the same folder the computer stops sharing files. A reboot is required to fix the problem.

Fixed to clarify.

Well, I still don't understand what you mean by "active directories". Do you mean you are not publishing the folder in Active Directory?

Regardless, that should not matter. To clarify:

you have a shared folder or folders. When more than one user attempts to access the same shared folder, the server locks up.

Is that correct?

Active Directory is an authentication framework not files and shares. I am still confused. Does lock up mean freeze / bsod / error messages.. ?

Ok, I have a misunderstanding of what Active Directory is. There are no errors server side, but client side the users can no longer access the server.

Is anything logged in the event logs on the clients or servers?

Clients are XP? Is 2003 fully patched? Is the server and the clients (and users) all members of the same domain?

Don't hold back on the info.

Sorry. As far as I know it's a fully patched Server 2003 box, all clients are either xp64 or xp. They are all part of the same domain.

explain how the two users connect? same username? same domain? or username without domain?

i'd check eventvwr on the server it usually gives you some ideas. naming conflicts etc
