What's good out there?
Have a drive with what I suspect is an unreadable sector placed in the MFT.
The drive mechanics are fine, and the drive is mostly readable. It's just not in a condition that Windows Explorer can work with, nor is chkdsk doing much good for me.
I am hoping there is some software out there I can get a hold of, even if purchased, that can just go and start copying files off to another drive.
There was an external drive for file backups connected, and the Western Digital software was still running fine up until the big crash. But as I find out now, the Western Digital software, while backing up most of the directories, excluded backing up the "windows" and "program files" directory, of which one of the software programs (a very important one) saved all of the data files within its directory under "program files".
This drive is salvageable. There are two partitions, the second partition is 100% working and recoverable. The first partition is partially readable, but chkdsk craps out along the way, usually during checking the indexes, and there are no other ill effects, like Windows never locks up or the system never resets, and I can always access the second partition. But I cannot pull anything out of the partition I need.
Thanks much in advance!
