File recovering from damaged partition table

I had a few partition tables go out on me so everything on them become inaccessible. I've been trying to recover the files (mostly video and mp3 files) using R-Studios NTFS recovery software. After scanning the partition, it shows all the lost files and recovers them but when playing the videos or mp3 files, they're all corrupted. Some will play but the content does not match the file name and some won't even play at all. The recovered files are worthless but take a lot of time to scan since it scans sector by sector. Why isn't the program recovering the file as the original? I've tried all the settings in the software but still same thing.

I would assume more than just the partition table got hosed.

It's going sector by sector. If any of the files are fragmented, then that can corrupt the files, especially as it recovers more and more files.
