So I backed up my system over the weekend...onto DVD-R discs using Nero 6. Now, after the burn, all the file names are whacked (Directories and file names).

For example, the IE bookmark "Google Maps" became "GOOGLE_MAPS". This is a minor example.

Is there any way to UNDO this effect? Rename all files in a sense?

You don't say whether the file names are messed up on the DVD or the source system, but I assume from your reaction and desire to undo it, it's the source system.

Pretty wierd, and never heard of that happening.

But here's a bump for you anyway.

Nah, the files were simply dragged and dropped from the system to Nero, then burned. Someone in that process the file names were altered as in the example above.

Here's another: the bookmark "{H}ardOCP" is now "_H_ARDOCP". Just looks funky.

yeah, i did that once too. I selected the settings in nero in hopes of more compatability or something, so one of those drawbacks is no long file names and its all caps. I ended up having to rename everything.

Relax your ISO settings before you burn. Check the "Joliet" box and make sure File name length is set to (ISO level 2). Just relax all the settings under the ISO tab before you burn.

No undo once the damage is done. You will have to burn the disks over again.
