file missing from USB

Hello,

I have a strange problem. So, my dad was working on a doc file on his usb and when he tried to save it Word gave him "somekind" of message. He clicked ok and the file went missing.

Now, I have no idea what the message was and neither does he since he doesn't understand English.

I tried data recovery tools but neither found the file.

Do any of you have an idea what went wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Word should save a temp (working) copy of the Doc while you're working on it too. Was that one missing too?

USB flash drives are inherently unreliable, and should only be used for temporary movement of data, where another copy still exists at the source. They should not be used for backup, for archival, or for "working documents", IMHO.

That is, if you practice strict "data hygiene".

I know all that but my it's my dad 🙄

When I open Word I see the title of the document in the recent files.

I'm not some computer wizz so I really don't know where to look for somekind of backup file.

There should be a file with a tilde in the name, with .tmp or .bak or something, in either same directory as the file that you were working on, or possible the User Temp directory (under AppData under the User directory) on the OS drive.
