I have a 26mb video that I want people on my website to be able to view and due to it's content(A celebrity nipple piercing) I would like for only people at the website to be able to download the file. In other words, I don't want other people to be able to post the link to other forums and/or send it out in emails and have it work. My bandwidth is growing out of control already and this is not a Google or You Tube candidate due to it's nature.

Can someone either tell me or point me to a webpage that details how to do this?

Much thanks in advance.

What kind of web host? Apache or Microsoft IIS? And do you have direct control over it?

You can check to make sure the http_referrer is a page from your site, and only forward them to the link if it is. This can be faked, but might be enough to dissuade most people.

If you have cPanel w/ your hosting, or any decent hosting for that matter, you can limit where the files can be d/led from. I remember doing this when I had dreamhost.

If it's a private website, you can always zip the video and give it a password. That should stop people from downloading your videos.

If you're using cPanel, just click on Hotlink Protection in the control panel and you can set it up there.

Since your site is basically a vbulletin forum why not upload it as an attachment and configure the forum so that attachements can only be downloaded by members? That's pretty much the only way to do it without putting a password on the download link. Hotlink protection is extremely easy to get around.

Or, you could teach those people how to use FTP w/a l/p.

I don't want to teach hundreds of people how to do anything. :p
