Hello, how reliable is File History? Is it like a Mac version of Time Machine?

I don't remember the name but before File History, Windows had another built-in tool to save and restore checkpoints. However, it did not work well especially when I needed it the most. I have tried Norton Ghost and Acronis True Image in the past but both also failed to restore the PC.
 
I use the image feature, located in the control panel, backup and restore Win 10 to image the drive periodically Then copy the files I need from it. I f I am in that bad of a situation, a fresh install is preferred.
 
Between File History and Backup&Restore, which is better?

I think I used Backup&Restore in the past but it did not work well in my case.
