File/folder compression in win2k

I'm considering compressing my 27.2 gig 5400 rpm maxtor drive that I use for storing mp3s and mpegs. It never really gets hit hard unless I'm moving a large mpeg from my other hd to it. I'd considered buying another relatively cheap harddrive to replace it, but if I can get more space for nothing (without any bizzare side effects) I'll just compress it. What problems would I have to look out for aside from the obvious performance hit? Would it even be noticeable streaming an mp3 from it? There are no applications on it.

For your uses you would not notice a speed difference, but as Elledan said, MP3 and MPEGs are already compressed so you won't likely gain anything from it. It doesn't hurt to try though, then you will know for sure 😉
