File Error - Transferred files from Mac OS X to Windows

I transferred several WAV files from a Mac OS X laptop to my laptop over an adhoc network.

When I looked at the folder I transferred the files into on my thinkpad I noticed that none of the files had extensions on them, they just appeared as 60 - 80mb 'files'...

I renamed them all accordingly however one of them won't allow me to rename it, nor delete it at all, I get shown a "Cannot rename file: Cannot read from the source file or disk" error...

I've searched everywhere I can but don't seem to be able to come up with anyway of renaming it and/or removing the file, it's becoming annoying as it's in a folder on my desktop

Any clues as to where to start would be much appreciated 🙂

Cheers,

try transferring over AIM.. for some reason at my parents, file transfer between the OSes never worked (couldn't get transfer to start at all), but using AIM worked just fine. it's a little bit of a hassle, but if you need it just this one time (or sparingly), it might not be such a bad solution

Is the file named ".DS_Store"? That would be OS X metadata for the arrangement of icons in a folder and other things. Well I don't know how to delete it, looks more like a Windows issue than a networking problem to me now.

To avoid further incidents with normally invisible OS X files in other OSes, use the utility TinkerTool to deactivate this behavior in OS X.
