File corruption on SSD

I have a 128G Super Talent SSD. I have an issue with it in that chkdsk very often starts up on a reboot because there are almost always corrupted files/file structure. I RMAed one drive and the 2nd one appears to be much better but the problem still is there.

I have a MSI X58 based board, 6G or ram and an i7 930.

The drive is using IDE drivers right now but I used AHCI with the drive I RMAed (I tried both drivers) and there was no difference.

Can someone either point me out to all the basic settings you need to make sure a SSD will be working properly or list them here in this thread? I want to try and troubleshoot this.

I know that I can run memtest for days with no errors but prime95 is causing me a few issues right now. Runs a long time, but I can't get it to go for more than 24 hours. I am not overclocking anything. Ram is running at 1600 and that is what it is rated for (OCZ ram).

thanks

Michael

There are no special settings needed for an SSD, except for the recommendation that they are run in AHCI mode. Just plug it in - and you're done.

If prime95 is failing then your CPU/Mobo/RAM combination is malfunctioning. This sort of fault would also cause random corruption of file structure on drives.

You need to test your CPU/Mobo and RAM in combination with known good components to see if you can identify the faulty part.

You should do simple things - like checking temperatures and making sure that heatsinks are properly seated.

If you're running your RAM at 1600 then you're overclocking. Backing it down to either 1333 (technically still overclocking) or 1066 (spec for X58) might fix your problems.

Well technically that was Intel officially supports, but as long as the voltage is <=1.65 that really shouldn't be any problem. But as Mark said - if the CPU or RAM is malfunctioning that can obviously corrupt some files.

To find out if it's the RAM or something else I'd run memtest for a while and see what it says..

I'm assuming that this is an Indilinx based drive. Based on the issues that OCZ has been having with corruption, I snooped over to the SuperTalent forums and seems that they released a new firmware (2030) to correct corruption but pulled it for some reason. I am starting to think that Indilinx firmwares suck ass right now for SSD as many of them (various brands) become corrupted often.

It is Indilix-based.

I can run memtest for 7 days straight with no errors. I did that when my 1st SSD was in the RMA stage.

I will have to run different versions of prime 95 to see if it is the CPU (use the test that doesn't need to access RAM) or some interaction with the memory and CPU (standard "torture test"). I'll start by down-clocking the RAM.

I'm not sure about the comment that 1600 is "overclocking". It is at 1.65 volts and the timings suggested by OCZ. From what I can tell about the i7, 1600 should be fine.

My motherboard : http://us.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&prod_no=1703

And now that I look at the specs, anything over 1066 has a * by it an (OC) as well.

I still kept getting the constant errors.

I tried to flash to the latest firmware and it died.

i bought an Intel SDD and zero issues.

Super talent does not respond to support requests.

I cannot recommend their SSDs.

Wow you have me worried now. I bought a Kingston 64GB Indilinx based drive for my new system....

edit

ok I looked it up and i'm pretty sure the drive I ordered has a JMicron controler. Makes me feel a bit safer.
